The Goal of World Community with Peace, Liberty and Justice For All

Delegates at the 2006 General Assembly adopted “Peacemaking” as the 2006-2010 congregational study/action issue.

The Issue: Should the Unitarian Universalist Association reject the use of any and all kinds of violence and war to resolve disputes between peoples and nations and adopt a principle of seeking just peace through nonviolent means?

A Congregational Study/Action Issue (CSAI) is an invitation for congregations and districts to take a topic of concern confront it, reflect on it, learn about it, respond to it, comment on it take action - each in their own way. A CSAI is NOT a statement - it is a question. The original text is intended to frame the issue and a statement is developed over four years scheduled to be voted on at the 2009 General Assembly (GA).

For more information visit Peacemaking.

Members of UUCC will have the opportunity to comment on the issue and eventually instruct delegates to GA when the issue is presented as a proposed Statement of Conscience.

During the next year, the UUCC Peace Team will provide opportunities for learning and discussion including films, forums, workshops.

The Peace Team’s mission is to promote peacemaking within ourselves, our congregation, our community, and the world.

To this end we have set the following goals.  We will:

· Inspire the members, friends and youth of UUCC to actively pursue peacemaking (the peaceful, nonviolent and transformative resolution of conflict) in our homes, congregation, communities and the larger world;

· Encourage everyone in UUCC to participate in the UUA peacemaking study/action issue process;

· Coordinate study and action programs for all ages on peacemaking at UUCC and in the community;

· Serve as a resource for peacemaking at UUCC and in the community;

·  Weave inclusiveness and a commitment to equality and justice through all our activities.
